What would you do if your boss hid a shooting threat from you, your coworkers, and your customers, putting the company’s bottom line above everyone’s safety?
At Touchstone Climbing in California, they unionized.
The corporation responded by hiring one of the most notorious anti-union law firms in the country. Touchstone thinks that because they’re a small chain, no one will notice when they fight the union. We’re here to prove them wrong.
For workers at five Touchstone climbing gyms in California, their employer’s failure to disclose a shooting threat was the spark that lit their union drive. They organized–and won.
After the shooting threat came to light, workers walked out, shutting down the gyms, and successfully fought to have the potential shooter banned in order to protect both staff and gym members.
Now union workers at Touchstone are fighting to win the first contract they deserve, and Touchstone is still putting their bottom line above the well-being of their employees.
Touchstone hired one of the most notorious anti-union law firms in the country to represent them in negotiations, and after workers presented a full and reasonable contract at the table, Touchstone has either responded simply with “no” or sent ridiculous proposals back.
Recently, Touchstone proposed a wage cut in order for employees to keep their current healthcare–even though they are raising gym dues, opening new locations, and spending thousands and thousands on union-busting lawyers. What?!
Right now, Touchstone Workers United is asking the community to send letters of solidarity to Touchstone management, asking them to bargain in good faith. Letters like these are impactful, because when companies know the public is onto them, they also know that their profits (aka priorities) are on the line.
In Solidarity,
The Labor Force
