Fired Home Depot Workers United organizer Steve Pace at Labor Notes 2024

Tell Home Depot CEO: Reinstate Fired Union Organizer Now

The Home Depot recently fired Steve Pace, one of the lead organizers of Home Depot’s worker-led union. They think they can stop workers from organizing by firing outspoken employees one-by-one. We need to send a clear signal that they can’t.

Send a message directly to Home Depot CEO Ted Decker, demanding that he immediately reinstate Steve Pace and recognize the rights of workers to organize without fear of retaliation!

Steve’s story:

“I’d been with Home Depot for 11 years. I’d always gotten great reviews, been told I had “high potential,” and was a go-to guy for questions.

That changed after my fellow associates and I began building our own union, Home Depot Workers United.

I started organizing because I got tired of seeing Home Depot churn through people for easily solvable issues like pay, scheduling, and safety. I wanted my fellow Home Depot associates to realize they deserve better – because we are what makes this company so wildly profitable.

But once management got wind that we were collecting union authorization cards, it engaged in a brutal union busting campaign that sought to scare associates into being too afraid to exercise their rights.

Meanwhile, Home Depot’s retaliation against me continued, and I was fired on July 16.

Firing organizers like me is just one way that corporations like Home Depot try to stamp out union efforts and protect their bottom line. They want workers to be too scared to even try. These companies need to know that they can’t unlawfully retaliate against workers and get away with it.

Termination hasn’t stopped me or my coworkers. Across the country, we’re still fighting for what Home Depot workers deserve.”

You can help Steve and his coworkers continue organizing and hold Home Depot accountable by sending a clear message to CEO Ted Decker. Demand that the company reinstate Steve and recognize its workers right to organize without fear of retaliation.

Thank you for taking action!

In solidarity,
