Announcing the Federal Worker Defense Fund

Trump’s Executive Order stripped federal workers of their bargaining rights…and federal unions of the critical resources they need to fight back. That’s why we just launched the Federal Worker Defense Fund.

Trump’s Executive Order Is An Attack On Federal Workers

Last month, President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order declaring war on working people by denying their collective bargaining rights. This order was a direct attack on the rights of one million patriotic American civil servants. Many of these workers are members of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the largest union of federal workers in the country.

In addition to stripping hundreds of thousands of federal workers of their bargaining rights, Trump’s Executive Order also threatens to financially gut unions like AFGE. Agencies affected by Trump’s EO are no longer able to collect union dues through voluntary payroll deductions, which is how most union members have paid dues up until now.

Without funds, AFGE can’t stand up to the Trump administration’s attack on public services. This is an existential fight for federal unions and for the labor movement at large.

Right now, AFGE is working to move all union members to an alternative payment system, but that process will take time, effort, and resources–in an already chaotic moment where tens of thousands of federal workers have been fired.

AFGE has filed a lawsuit―but while the courts take their time to rule, Trump’s orders are still in effect.  All of this means that AFGE is without critical resources in a moment when the union needs to fight back, hard.

Announcing the Federal Worker Defense Fund

That’s where the Federal Worker Defense Fund comes in. The Federal Worker Defense Fund is a collaboration between The Labor Force and AFGE to help pay legal costs, aid fired workers, and pay for mass mobilizations. It’s going to be an essential resource while AFGE fights back.

You can support AFGE members by making a donation to the Federal Worker Defense Fund right here.

Then spread the word by signing and sharing our “Grassroots Amicus Brief” in support of Federal Workers.

In solidarity,
