Trader Joe’s United Wins Union In Chicago!

Jul 10, 2026

Big news! Trader Joe’s United, the independent, worker-led union of Trader Joe’s workers, just won its fifth local at a Chicago store after two years of legal battles with Trader Joe’s.

Workers at Chicago’s Lincoln Avenue Trader Joe’s location were left in limbo after their 2023 union election ended in a tie, 70-70, with one challenged ballot left unopened.

Trader Joe’s contested the opening of the challenged ballot. But on July 8, after over two years of legal battles, the NLRB ordered the final ballot to be opened…bringing the final tally to 71-70: a win for the union!

Trader Joe’s has fought the union every step of the way―with surface bargaining, endless legal appeals, and retaliation against union supporters.

While Trader Joe’s threw every union-busting trick in the book at the union, workers kept organizing. Trader Joe’s United is still growing―but they need our support.

Fighting for justice in Chicago for nearly 2 years took a bite out of TJU’s resources. And with more stores organizing, we need to jump on this momentum. Can you chip in $5 to help unionize Trader Joe’s?
